To strengthen the bilateral relationship between India and Ethiopia purely based on Science, Technology and Innovation. The Program will identify and utilize validated Indian innovations &technologies culled through a unique and rigorous evaluation process to create sustainable joint ventures in Ethiopia.
To deploy 50 Indian innovations and technologies in Ethiopia over a period of five years and stimulate economic impact development in the country. Build an ecosystem wherein Indian innovations and technology enterprises drive B2B/B2G business ventures with Ethiopia, propelling growth in India and Ethiopia and add to India’s diplomatic prowess.
The IEITCP was announced during the second and concluding day of the DST-FICCI Global R&D Summit held on 21-22 February 2019 in Hyderabad by Hon’ble Dr. Harsh Vardhan, India’s Union Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Environment, Forests & Climate Change, together with Hon’ble Engineer Dr. Getahun Mekuria, Ethiopia’s Minister of Innovation and Technology, Ethiopia. The Programme will identify and utilize 50 validated Indian technologies/innovations over five years, culled through a unique and rigorous evaluation process to create sustainable joint projects/ventures in Ethiopia. The programme will create an ecosystem wherein Indian innovations and technology enterprises drive B2B/B2G business ventures with Ethiopia, propelling growth in India and Ethiopia. India Call for Applications will be launched in mid of June 2019 through Media and Digital Marketing, Road Shows and access to wide FICCI network through academic institutions, R&D laboratories etc.
On 23 May 2019 in Addis Ababa, during the visit of FICCI Team, the Ethiopia announcement of the programme was officially made by H.E. Mr. Anurag Srivastava, Ambassador of India to Ethiopia together with Hon’ble Engineer Dr. Getahun Mekuria, Minister of Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia, in presence of State Ministers, Secretaries and senior officers from Government of Ethiopia, Private Sector Federation, India Business Forum, three top incubation centers and the national media. During the visit, the Ethiopian Government confirmed that its National Vision Plan focuses on 11 Priority Sectors (Agriculture & Food Processing, Healthcare, Water & Sanitation, Renewable Energy, ICT & IT, Education, Trade & Industry, Mines & Minerals, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Infrastructure, Environment & Forestry). Specific interventions in these sectors would be identified by MInT Ethiopia, in consultation with all public & private stakeholders, and provided as the assessed needs of Ethiopia to be matched with technology-led innovations from India.
FICCI Centre for Innovation, Science and Technology Commercialization (FICCI C-Tech) serves as a Programme Implementation Manager working with the Department of Science & Technology (DST) of the Ministry of Science and Technology with support from the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India to ensure the bilateral programme meets its objectives and goals. FICCI C-Tech has experience of over a decade in implementing innovation and technology transfer programs in India and overseas, including Africa. More than a dozen technologies and innovations have already found their way into East Africa. FICCI C-Tech is also executing an exclusive pilot programme for Africa, called the India – Rwanda Innovation Growth Programme.
